    Online Updating of Statistical Inference in the Big Data Setting

    We present statistical methods for big data arising from online analytical processing, where large amounts of data arrive in streams and require fast analysis without storage/access to the historical data. In particular, we develop iterative estimating algorithms and statistical inferences for linear models and estimating equations that update as new data arrive. These algorithms are computationally efficient, minimally storage-intensive, and allow for possible rank deficiencies in the subset design matrices due to rare-event covariates. Within the linear model setting, the proposed online-updating framework leads to predictive residual tests that can be used to assess the goodness-of-fit of the hypothesized model. We also propose a new online-updating estimator under the estimating equation setting. Theoretical properties of the goodness-of-fit tests and proposed estimators are examined in detail. In simulation studies and real data applications, our estimator compares favorably with competing approaches under the estimating equation setting.Comment: Submitted to Technometric

    A method for service quality assessment in a service ecosystem

    the increasing proliferation of independent application service providers is making traditional IT infrastructure insufficient when dealing with new issues that appear in a dynamic outsourcing business model. Quality of Service (QoS) gradually becomes an essential benchmark to differentiate diverse service providers during service selection process. In this paper, we argue service selection can be deemed as a decision making process - to decide which services providers should be selected within the specified service provision context during a definitive timeslot. Thus, existing decision support approaches can be leveraged if applicable. Hence, we propose a service selection solution which utilizes the Decision Support Systems Module (DSS Module) to select the most appropriate service. In DSS module we introduce AHP model to carry out the service QoS measurement based on the Context-specific Quality Aspects. The contributions of this paper are two folds. Firstly, we provide a novel and feasible solution for QoS-based service selection and secondly, we apply DSS module into web services, thus opening a new, fertile ground for DSS research in service ecosystem literature

In this paper, we firstly introduce a conceptual model of DES. The design and implementation of a DES simulation is then presented to illustrate some fundamental characteristics for further DES study.     AtomServ architecture: Towards internet-scaled service, publish, subscription, and discovery

    With the surge of SOA-based infrastructure and applications, increasingly end users and small-medium-enterprises directly participate in the service publish and discovery across the Internet. The recent shutdown of public UDDI exposes critical problems of existing Internet-based service discovery. Hence, public service discovery becomes a central SOA issue. In this paper, we present a light weight service discovery architecture built upon widely-adopted WWW technologies and proven software architectural styles. Firstly, it provides a handy discovery facility for personal web services providers and consumers, who would not be expected to able to use complex UDDI specifications with dedicated endpoint computing capability. Secondly, it widens the adoption of service discovery by allowing simple and uniform web user interfaces (e.g. Internet Explorer7.0 and Firefox1.1) to subscribe and access frequently changing business services. This undoubtedly lowers the entry barrier for end users to play the role of service providers or consumers in a sheer Service-Oriented Environment across the Internet

    The classical nature of centralized web services client/server architecture brings about many associated problems such as performance, bottlenecks, and scalability. Meanwhile some peer-to-peer research proposals have not respected the existing web services standards, thus leaving the compatibility and feasibility issue open. Hence existing web services architecture is not designed to accommodate large-scale, distributed, internet-wide applications. In this paper, we propose a conceptual architecture for distributed web services to enable web services-based software systems to "work well" in the heterogeneous and highly distributed service ecosystem environment

    Comparison of web service architecture based on architecture quality properties

    Web service research has been focused on the issues of automatic binding, performance, scalability, and security, however, little research has been done in evaluation of web service architectures, namely Broker based. Examples of these are Matchmaker Broker, Layered Matchmaker, Facilitator, Layered facilitator, and Peer to peer (P2P) based, such as P2P Discovery, Match Maker and P2P, Split Code and P2P execution, Mobile Code with P2P etc. Another consideration is its impact on the adoption in distributed Internet environment. In this paper we introduce a methodology for measuring and evaluating web service architecture style, and we present our development of a set of architectural quality properties, and use these quality properties to carry out comparison and contract of current web services architectures. We provide a detailed analysis and critique of these, and these could be served as a guidelines for the next generation of web services development, which could adopted into the distributed environment
